Shane Smith
Sent from the USA - Interview date around 23rd April, 2006 Well folks, I received this only just recently and I knew that there would be “PLENTY” of GDFRA Members and others that will be over the moon to see this posted. To all the newer members who didn’t get the chance to meet our “SMIVVY” (Shane Smith) you don’t know how unfortunate you are. Shane had been a member of GDFRA (off the top of my head) for around 7-8 years. In that short time he was able to gain his full Class One and also served on the GDFRA Management. During the middle of last season we lost Smivvy to the U.S. of A, but with this came a gain, we received a Mrs. Smith. Shane has now taken up refereeing in America and from all within GDFRA we wish him the best. WE MISS YOU BIG FELLA 1. What is your reason for refereeing? To give back to the game that has been a major part of my life since first playing as a 5 year old, a bit of fitness and good social activity. 2. Worst moment in reference to refereeing?
Worst moment was
whilst being inspected and being hit in the “tackle-box” by a miscued
shot, after the game being advised I was correctly positioned, but
“don’t rub them, count them!” Completing my second Class One field test. 4. What would be the best advice you could pass on to another referee? Never lose confidence in your ability, strive to be the best YOU can be. 5. On a long plane trip who would you most like to sit next to and why? Nobody, I like to spread out and go to sleep. 6. What other hobbies/interests do you have apart from refereeing? Traveling and seeing the history of the world for myself. 7. If there was one thing you could change in regards to refereeing/laws what would it be? Pass, there is already enough people messing with them. 8. If you had a chance to go on the ultimate holiday where/what would it be?
I am
wanting to go to the Carribean, I also still haven’t seen enough of USA
, but I am working on it.
I haven’t
thought about it, I don’t plan on being in that position. Smiling while issuing a RED card. 11. What is your pet hate in reference to refereeing? New referees who think they are above being advised or coached. 12. If you compared yourself to an animal what would it be and why? A Bull, have you ever tried standing up to one ? 13. What are your refereeing/management aspirations? Having achieved in both, I just want to continue to enjoy refereeing our great game.
